Melanie Felicitas Costa Schmid (born April 24, 1989 in Palma ) is a Spanish freestyle swimmer , three-time Olympic participant and world champion over 400 meters of crawl at the 2012 short course world championships .

successes

At the European Short Course Championships in Eindhoven in 2010 and in Stettin in 2011 , the 180 cm tall and 69 kg light Mallorcan woman had already won two silver and two bronze medals in the individual disciplines between 200 and 800 meters freestyle. In 2012 in the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul she left the long leading favorite Camille Muffat , the short course world champion in the 200 m of 2010, behind in the final sprint and relegated Chloe Sutton (USA, 4: 01.20) and Lauren Boyle (New Zealand, 4:01 , 24,) with a time of 4: 01.08 min. on your marks. Costa's teammate Erika Villaécija came in eighth.
