Lauren Marie Boyle (born December 14, 1987 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand freestyle swimmer .

Career

Lauren Boyle played her first international championship in 2005 at the World Championships in Montreal , where she was eliminated over 400 m freestyle in the preliminary and was eighth with the relay over 4 × 200 m freestyle. In 2006 she took part in her first Commonwealth Games and won bronze in the 4 × 200 m freestyle. At the World Short Course Championships in Shanghai in 2006 , the 4th and 5th place followed in the 4 × 100 and 4 × 200 m freestyle. At the Swimming World Championships in Melbourne in 2007 , she came in none of her five individual and relay starts on the prelims. In 2008 she started at the Olympic Games in Beijing in the relay over 4 × 200 m freestyle, which was disqualified in the preliminary stages.

From 2007 to 2010, Lauren Boyle studied at the University of California at Berkeley , where she earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Haas School of Business and competed for the California Golden Bears university team .

At the Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi , Lauren Boyle won silver in the 4 × 200 m freestyle and reached the finals in seventh place in the 200 m and fifth in the 400 m. In 2011 she reached the finals over 400 and 800 m at the World Championships in Shanghai, where she was sixth and eighth, and also finished eighth in the 4 × 200 m relay. At the Universiade in Shenzhen a few weeks later, she won five medals, including gold in the 400 and 800 m freestyle.

In 2012, Lauren Boyle took part in the Olympic Games for the second time and reached 8th place in the 400 m freestyle in London before she narrowly missed the podium as fourth in the Oceania record of 8: 22.72 minutes over twice the distance . At the short course world championships in Istanbul at the end of the year , she became world champion in the 800 m freestyle and won bronze over 400 m. In 2013 she won a bronze medal in the 400 m freestyle at the World Championships in Barcelona as the first woman from New Zealand to win a medal at a long-course World Championship. This was followed by two more bronze medals in the 800 and 1500 m freestyle.

On August 9, 2014, Lauren Boyle set a new world record in the 1500 m freestyle at a short course meeting in Wellington in 15: 22.68 minutes , which was undercut by Mireia Belmonte in December of the same year . At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow she won gold medal over 400 and silver over 800 m freestyle; She was fourth over 200 m. This was followed by two silver and one bronze medals at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships 2014 in Gold Coast . At the 2015 World Swimming Championships in Kazan , Lauren Boyle won two silver medals in the 800 and 1500 m freestyle behind the outstanding Katie Ledecky , setting new Oceania records.
