Melissa Bishop-Nriagu (born August 5, 1988 in Eganville , Renfrew County , Ontario as Melissa Corrine Bishop ) is a Canadian middle -distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter distance .

At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow in 2013 , she was eliminated in the preliminary stages.

In 2014 she finished eighth at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , and in 2015 she won the Pan American Games in Toronto .

At the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, she improved the Canadian record over 800 m to 1: 57.52 min in the semifinals. In the final she won the silver medal with 1: 58.12 min.

In the following year she finished fourth at the 2016 Olympic Games with a new national record of 1: 57.02 minutes behind Caster Semenya , Francine Niyonsaba and Margaret Wambui .

In 2017, Bishop improved her Canadian record at the Herculis Meeting by a hundredth of a second to 1: 57.01 min, and she finished fifth at the World Championships in London. In October she married her longtime boyfriend, Osi Nriagu, whom she met through her university's athletics team. The 2018 season left her pregnant, and in July she became a mother and daughter.
