Melvin Platje (born December 16, 1988 in Naarden , North Holland ) is a Dutch football player .

Career

Platje comes from a family where the male members - Melvin, his younger twin brothers, their father and an uncle - were all about football. Melvin Platjes first club was SDO in his hometown Bussum . From there he came to SV Huizen through the youth of FC Omniworld at the age of 16, where he and Nordin Amrabat won the championship in the storm. As a youth he moved to FC Volendam . In a youth encounter against Ajax Amsterdam , he drew attention to himself with a hit from the center line. With the Volendamers he made his professional debut in the Eerste Divisie on August 24, 2007 against FC Zwolle at the age of 18 under coach Stanley Menzo . In eleven second division matches in the 2007/08 season, he scored his only goal on September 7, 2007, the 1-0 lead in the away game at SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden ; Volendam lost the game after being substituted in the final minutes with 1: 2.

His breakthrough came after promotion in the 2008/09 Eredivisie season ; Platje was used in 32 league games. However, it initially caused a stir with negative headlines. In two consecutive Eredivisie home games in late October and early November 2008, in the 2-2 win over Willem II Tilburg and in the 3-1 win over De Graafschap , he scored his first two goals in the top division. In both hits, however, he took the hand to help, which the referees overlooked. However, these two and five other goals could not prevent the direct relegation of the "other Oranjeteam", as Volendam is called because of the club colors. In the KNVB Cup competition , Volendam reached the semi-finals this season - also thanks to a brilliantly laid-out Platje, who scored an equalizer and winner in the quarter-finals against Roda JC as a “joker” to make it 3-2 after extra time. Platje's coach for the season, Frans Adelaar , saw similarities between Platje's play system and Dirk Kuyt's , whom he had coached at FC Utrecht .

In the following two seasons in the Eerste Divisie, the young, only 1.77 meter tall striker was able to develop further. After 14 goals in the 2009/10 season, he came in 2010/11 with 21 league goals third on the scorers list. Platje can be used in any attack position, but is just as dangerous as a shooter as a preparer, especially in the penalty area. For the 2011/12 season , the 22-year-old, for whom Heracles Almelo had also won, signed a two-year contract - with the club's option for a further year - with honorary division NEC. On his home game debut in Nijmegen, he scored both goals to win 2-0 over Excelsior , the previous club of his coach Alex Pastoor .

After playing for various clubs at home and abroad, he moved to Germany in February 2016 for third division club Hansa Rostock . He played for Rostock until the end of January 2017. In February 2017 he went to Belgium , where he joined Lommel United .
