Menglavirus ( Pinyin Mĕnglà virus , English Mengla virus , scientifically Mengla dianlovirus ) is a species from the family of viruses from the biology Filoviridae , which also includes the Ebola virus and the Marburg virus .

history

The virus was discovered in December 2015. It was genetically detected in the liver of rosette bat from the rainforest in Mengla County ( Chinese 勐 腊 , Pinyin Měnglà ) in the south of the Chinese province of Yunnan near the border with Laos and Myanmar . It was named after this circle by Xing-Lou Yang (Virological Institute of Wuhan Province ) and employees.

Menglavirus is said to be pathogenic to humans, as indicated by a central area of a surface protein with which Filoviridae bind to target cells and which corresponds to those of other Filoviridae. Other viruses, which were equipped with genes of the Menglavirus and secreted its glycoproteins , were contagious in cell cultures for hamsters , dogs , monkeys and humans . It is therefore the potential trigger of a zoonosis . In total, 32 to 54 percent of the virus's gene sequence should match that of other Filoviridae, which is why the virus was assigned to its own new genus. The spread of the virus is still unclear.
