Previous model Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 is a Mercedes-AMG racing car based on the Mercedes-AMG GT and built according to the FIA GT3 regulations .

The vehicle was first presented to the public in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show . The racing car has been delivered to customer teams since the end of 2015. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 was developed for sprint and long-distance races according to the near-series FIA GT3 regulations. In accordance with the regulations, it is constructed using lightweight technology, with a racing chassis, racing-compatible braking system and aerodynamics .

At the end of 2019, an EVO package for the Mercedes AMG GT3 was presented, including a significantly larger radiator grille and modified headlights.

Vehicle concept

Motorization

In the Mercedes-AMG GT3, the proven and additionally improved AMG 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine with dry sump lubrication was adopted from the previous model, the SLS AMG GT3 ; it is installed in the front. A sequential six-speed racing transmission of the GT3 variant is arranged on the rear axle. The engine and transmission are connected by a tube (so-called torque tube ), in which, as in the street version, a shaft made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP, "carbon") rotates at engine speed. This transaxle design enables a balanced weight distribution and results in both better driving behavior and higher traction.

Racing suspension

The front and rear wheels are suspended from double wishbones made of forged aluminum . Compared to the base vehicle, the track has been widened. In addition, different settings allow on springs and Bilstein - dampers , the vehicle height, the stabilizers as well as track and camber an individual adjustment to the racetracks. The rack and pinion steering is supported by a servo . The car has 18-inch light alloy wheels with central locking, treadless racing tires and a racing brake system with internally ventilated brake discs and a racing anti-lock braking system . Permanently installed pneumatic (compressed air) jacks support quick wheel changes.

Exterior

The body of the coupé was aerodynamically modified, not only visible on the new front apron with splinters, the bonnet with central cooling air outlet, but also on the side wheel arch ventilation, the side skirts with cooling channels for the rear axle brakes, the smooth floor with rear diffuser and the adjustable rear wing. This improved downforce and cooling. The tank nozzles for the quick tank system are located between the B and C pillars. In order to reduce the vehicle weight below the permitted 1300 kg, numerous parts are made of CFRP.

Safety equipment

The steel roll cage in accordance with FIA GT3 regulations also stiffens the vehicle chassis. Similar to the DTM vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, the individually adapted seat shell is located in a permanently mounted safety cell made of high-strength CFRP; In addition, the driver is protected with a six-point seat belt and HANS (Head and Neck Support) system. The position of the pedal box can be adjusted so that drivers of different sizes have space. The vehicle is equipped with the prescribed CFRP safety tank containers and a fire extinguishing system. There is also a escape hatch in the roof of the car.

cockpit

The central display in the driver's field of vision provides information on all important parameters such as speed, engine speed, operating temperatures, lap times and the current gear selection. The racing steering wheel is equipped with paddle shifters so that you do not have to take your hands off the steering wheel while changing gear. The controls for adjusting the traction control , reverse gear, brake balance and the integrated fire extinguishing system are located on the center console .
