Merle Homeier (born August 27, 1999 in Bückeburg , Lower Saxony ) is a German athlete who specializes in the long jump . In 2019 she became German runner-up in the long jump.

She also competes in other disciplines at regional championships and sporting events.

career path

Homeier attended the Adolfinum Gymnasium in Bückeburg , where she graduated from high school in 2017 . From September 1, 2017, she completed a voluntary social year in Hanover with the Lower Saxony Athletics Association (NLV). She studies biology at the Leibniz University Hannover .

Athletic career

Merle Homeier started her sporting career at the age of six when she joined VfL Bückeburg . As a result, she won numerous championship titles in various disciplines and age groups.

In 2014 she won her first national title. In the long jump, she won 30 cm ahead of the runner-up at the first trial German championships for under 16s . There she also won bronze in the high jump . Before that, she had increased her personal best to 6.08 m at the German Youth U16 block championships and at the end of the year was the only 6-meter jumper to top the annual top list of the German U16 Athletics Association (DLV) in the long jump.

In 2015 Homeier was less successful in the older age group of the U18 in the indoor season at the German U18 indoor championships . At the German U18 championships she reached 4th place. At the end of the year, with 6.05 m outdoors, she was third on the DLV's annual best list of the U18 long jump.

In 2016, she started the year better with a personal best of 6.10 m at the German U18 indoor championships and fourth place. The DLV nominated her for the U20 indoor international match in Padua, where she won the German selection barely a week later with 6.06 m with a third place. In the summer Homeier was German U18 champion with 6.12 m . At the end of the year, with 6.14 m outdoors and 6.10 m indoors, she was second on the DLV's annual best list of the U18 long jumpers.

In 2017 Homeier reached a higher age group and started the year successfully as the German U20 indoor runner-up in the long jump with a personal best of 6.16 m . Because of her performance, she received another invitation to the U20 indoor international competition, where she was able to improve again with another best performance of 6.21 m and contribute to the team victory with a 2nd place in the individual ranking. In the summer Homeier took part in the German U23 championships and was the youngest in the finals in 7th place. At the U20 European Championships she reached the finals, where Homeier finished 9th with 6.12 m. Finally she became German U20 runner-up , with another personal best of 6.23 m, a distance with which she was third on the DLV annual best list of the U20 at the end of the year. In the hall she was second best with 6.21 m.

In 2018 she was able to celebrate again at the beginning of the year, because she won the title at the North German Championships in the hall, and three weeks later she became German U20 indoor champion with a personal best of 6.38 m . The DLV nominated her again for the U20 indoor international competition, where Homeier won the long jump with 6.34 m and thus contributed to another team victory. At the U20 World Championships , she did not manage to call up her usual performance and with 5.93 m could not reach her second international final after the European Championships in 2017. At the end of the season Homeier was again German U20 runner-up with a 6.30 m jump and stayed 4 cm behind the winner Lea-Jasmin Riecke . At the end of the year she led the U20 annual best list of the DLV with 6.38 m indoors and was third with 6.30 m outdoors.

In 2019 Homeier started the active year with bronze at the German Indoor Championships . At the Chrono-Classics in Weinheim she increased her personal best to 6.45 meters at the end of May, but only came 4th a few days later at the German University Championships. In mid-June she became German U23 runner-up . One month later Homeier came fourth at the U23 European Championships and was German runner-up with 6.42 m at the beginning of August . In the annual best list of the DLV she was in fourth place for women at the end of the year, setting her personal indoor best of 6.38 m and 6.45 m outdoors.

In 2020 Homeier came bronze with a personal best of 6.41 m at the German Indoor Championships .

Merle Homeier is part of the perspective squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV).

Club affiliations and trainers

Homeier started on January 1st, 2020 for the LG Göttingen , parent club ASC Göttingen . Before that, she was with VfL Bückeburg with one interruption , where she trained with Frank Reinhardt. From 2015 to 2016 Homeier started for the LG Weserbergland , parent club Post-SV Stadthagen . After the club left the athletics community and they lost their coach Marco Leszczynski, they started again for VfL Bückeburg on January 1, 2017.
