The Great Mengsdorfer Spitze ( Polish Mięguszowiecki Szczyt , also called Mięguszowiecki Szczyt Wielki , Slovak Veľký Mengusovský štít , Hungarian Nagy-Menguszfalvi-csúcs ) is a mountain in the Polish High Tatras with an altitude of 2,438 meters. It is located on the main ridge of the Tatra Mountains on the Polish- Slovakian border in the Mengsdorf Peak massif . The Große Mengsdorfer Spitze is the second highest mountain in Poland.
Location and surroundings
Below the summit is the Meerauge mountain lake in the Fischseetal . The Hinzenseescharte separates it from the summit of the Cubryna , the Wildererjoch separates it from the summit of the Middle Mengsdorfer Spitze . Below the summit is the Mengsdorf Kessel ( Bańdzioch ), in which the remains of the Mengsdorf Glacier ( Lodowczyk Mięguszowiecki ) are located.
etymology
The name refer in all four languages to the place Mengusovce at the foot of the High Tatras, whose German name is Mengsdorf.
Flora and fauna
Despite its height, the Mengsdorfer Spitze has a colorful flora and fauna. Numerous plant species occur, especially high alpine flowers and grasses. In addition to insects and mollusks and birds of prey, marmots and chamois also visit the summit.

The summit is popular with alpinists. However, the climb is not easy.
Routes to the summit
The hiking trail first leads from the mountain lake Czarny Staw pod Rysami to the Mengsdorfer Kanzel . A permit from the national park administration is required for the further ascent . The summit, along with the other peaks of the massif, is very popular with climbers. Its north face, over 1000 meters high, is the highest face in the Tatras.
- ▬ A green marked trail leads from the tarn Czarny Staw pod Rysami to the summit and continue on the Wildererjoch (Mięguszowiecka Przełęcz pod Chłopkiem). An unmarked path, the so-called Droga po Głazach, continues . The ascent is difficult and secured with a chain. The Schronisko PTTK nad Morskim Okiem mountain hut is a suitable starting point for an ascent from the valleys.
