Michael Arnold (medical doctor)

Martin Michael Arnold (born December 27, 1928 in Mainz ) is a German doctor and university lecturer .

Career

Arnold visited a high school in Dusseldorf , where he graduated after the Second World War came as a soldier in 1944 in captivity, and again in 1945 was released. From 1950 he studied medicine in Göttingen and Freiburg as well as at the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf . During his studies he became a member of the Holzminda fraternity in 1950 , from which he resigned at the end of 1952 as spokesman . After graduating in 1955, he received his doctorate in 1956 . After working as an assistant at the I. Medical Clinic in Düsseldorf with Franz Grosse-Brockhoff , he conducted research from 1957 to 1961 at the Medical Research Institute of the Max Planck Society in Göttingen with Karl Thomas and Friedrich Timm in the fields of histochemistry and electron microscopy . In 1961 he moved to the Institute for Anatomy of the Justus Liebig University in Gießen and in 1962 to the Anatomical Institute of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , where he completed his habilitation in 1965 . Five years later he was appointed associate professor and in 1971 full professor at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. In 1976, he turned down a call to an anatomy chair at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . From 1984 to 1990 he was the managing director of the Anatomical Institute of the University of Tübingen. In 1990 he took over an endowed professorship established by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft in the field of health system research at the Medical Faculty of the University of Tübingen, which was limited to 1995.

His scientific work focuses on anatomy and histology (around 60 publications in total), health system research (around 200 publications) and the training of medical professionals.

He was a board member of the Society for Histochemistry , a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Medical Association and chairman of the Advisory Council of the Concerted Action in Health Care . From 1997 to 2007 he was chairman of the Southwest Health Council. For over 20 years he was a reviewer for the German Academic Exchange Service .
