Michael Göschelbauer

Michael Göschelbauer (born February 10, 1927 in Asperhofen , Lower Austria ; † November 10, 2000 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Michael Göschelbauer came from a family of farmers , so that after attending elementary and secondary school he found work on his parents' farm . In 1957 he took over this.

In 1960 Göschelbauer began his political career when he was elected to the Asperhofen municipal council for the ÖVP . Within the ÖVP he was traditionally a member of the Austrian Farmers' Union . In November 1964 he was sworn in in Vienna as a member of the Federal Council, to which he was to belong for 19 years until December 1983. Four times, in 1970, 1974, 1979 and most recently in 1983, Göschelbauer held the office of Federal Council President .

At the municipal level, Göschelbauer was elected mayor of his home community Asperhofen in 1972. He stayed that way until 1997. He was also elected chairman of the ÖVP district party for the Sankt Pölten-Land district.
