Michael L Bäumen (born April 5, 1950 in Mainz ; † February 17, 2019 ) was a German chef and entrepreneur.

Life

Michael L Bäumen was born in Mainz in 1950 and was an engineer for thermal process engineering . He was the owner of several patents with which he wanted to establish contacts in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the early 1990s .

In 1994 he moved with his wife from Krefeld to Krakow am See , where he bought a former children's holiday camp and, after renovations, opened the hotel and restaurant I know a house on the lake there in September 1994 . As a hobby chef and self-taught , he cooked dishes influenced by classic French cuisine. In November 1995 he was awarded the first Michelin star for his achievements . At that time he was the first chef in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to hold a Michelin star and the second in the New States . In 1996 he was a co-founder of the “Association of Quality-Oriented Chefs Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania”. In 2005 he left the hotel and restaurant and tried to settle down in Rostock with a similar concept . When he failed, he devoted himself to the production of mustard , vinegar and spice oils in the Rühn monastery , later he worked as a hotelier in the “Borgwarthof” Sundhagen . Most recently, he worked as a consultant in Schwerin . Since his departure, the kitchen in the restaurant in Krakow am See has been led by head chef Raik Zeigner , who learned from Michael Luly and has since defended his Michelin star. Laumen's daughter Petra König runs the hotel and restaurant.

Michael L Bäumen died on February 17, 2019 at the age of 68.
