Michael Letmathe (* 1984 in Essen ) is a German theater director and dramaturge .

Life

Parallel to studying German , Romance languages and history at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf , Michael Letmathe began his theater work at the Schauspiel Essen , where he did his first internships and assistants in various areas. The step towards professionalism took place in 2008 when he worked at the theater of the city of Aalen as a dramaturge, advisor for press and public relations and as a theater pedagogue. In 2010 he moved to the State Theater in Nuremberg before working as an assistant director at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe for four years . It was here that I created my own directorial work, For example, the musical revue Dinner for One with songs , which has been regularly included in the program since 2012 at the turn of the year. In the series Das Neue Stück , Michael Letmathe judges drama texts by aspiring authors such as B. Wolfram Lotz , Aiat Fayez and Konstantin Küspert . He also gained further directorial experience at the Kammertheater Karlsruhe, where he staged Franz Wittenbrink's musical comedy Men and wrote and premiered his own sequel under the title Men 2 .

In the 2015/16 season, Michael Letmathe moved to the Münster Theater as a dramaturg , where he has also directed his own work since then. In addition to Party Time by Harold Pinter and Small Town Boy by Falk Richter , he staged the German-language premiere of Michel Marc Bouchard's Tom in the Country . In 2017 he worked as a guest dramaturge at the Osnabrück Theater together with Tuğsal Moğul and Anis Hamdoun on the world premiere of The Unknown City . In 2018, he staged The Invisible Hand by Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar at Theater Paderborn . In Munster he brought in the same year The White Album of Beatles on stage and developed for the anniversary 100 years Bauhaus , in cooperation with the LWL Museum Munster , the interdisciplinary dance theater project Unknown Territories , for which he and Hans Henning Paar worked. His production Who killed my father , based on the novel by Édouard Louis , was invited to the virtual theater meeting by nachtkritik.de and was voted one of the ten best productions of 2020. He is part of the board of trustees for the 25th edition of the Festival of Young Actors Week . Singer and composer Fabian Kuss is responsible for the incidental music of Michael Letmathe's productions.
