Miguel José Asurmendi Aramendia SDB (born March 6, 1940 in Pamplona ; † August 9, 2016 ibid) was a Spanish religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Vitoria .

Miguel Asurmendi joined the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco on August 16, 1957 and made profession on July 23, 1963 . He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome (1969) and the Universidad Civil de Valencia (1973) and was ordained a priest on March 5, 1967 .

On July 27, 1990, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Tarazona . The Apostolic Nuncio in Spain, Archbishop Mario Tagliaferri , donated him episcopal ordination on September 30 of the same year . Co- consecrators were Cardinal Antonio María Javierre Ortas SDB and the Archbishop of Saragossa , Elías Yanes Álvarez .

On September 8, 1995, he was appointed Bishop of Vitoria . Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on January 8, 2016.

In the Spanish Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Episcopal Commission (1990–1996; since 2008), the Commission for Education and Catechesis (1992–1993; 1999–2008), the Commission for the Clergy (1993–1999) and for the Lay Apostolate ( 1996-1999).
