Joaquín Carmelo Borobia Isasa (born August 16, 1935 in Cortes ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in Toledo .

Life

Carmelo Borobia Isasa studied humanities and philosophy at the seminary of Alcorisa in the province of Teruel and Saragossa from 1946 to 1953 , then theology at the seminary of Pamplona . He graduated in philosophy from the Pontifical University of Salamanca in 1959 and graduated in liturgical studies from the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome in 1968 . In 1970 he received his doctorate at the Angelicum with a thesis on the liturgy in the theology of Thomas Aquinas to Doctor theologiae .

Carmelo Borobia Isasa was ordained a priest on July 19, 1959 in Saragossa and was incardinated in the clergy of the Tudela diocese . In 1960 he was first coadjutor of Cadreita in Navarre . In 1961 he became chaplain of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas . From 1964 to 1970 he was chaplain of Santa Maria di Monserrato in Rome. In 1970 he joined the Vatican State Secretariat as an official . From 1978 to 1990 he was Secretary General of the Archbishop of Zaragoza.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Elo on January 15, 1990 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Saragossa . The Archbishop of Saragossa, Elías Yanes Álvarez , donated him the episcopal ordination in the Basílica del Pilar on June 9, 1980; Co-consecrators were Mario Tagliaferri , Apostolic Nuncio in Spain , and Maximino Romero de Lema , Secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy . On May 24, 1996 he was appointed Bishop of Tarazona and on July 7, 1996 he was appointed to the office. On October 21, 2004 he was named titular bishop of Rubicon and auxiliary bishop in Toledo . On December 3, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation.

As a member of the Spanish Bishops' Conference , he was involved in the commissions for social media, liturgy and cultural heritage. From 1998 to 2006 he was Prior of Aragon of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
