Mikkel Beckmann (born October 24, 1983 in Lundtoft ) is a former Danish football player .

Club career

Beckmann began his career at the age of 4½ in the youth team at Brede IF. Via Virum-Sorgenfri BK he came to B 1903 Copenhagen in 2002 , where he completed his last season as a youth player.

As a result, he got his first young professional contract at Brønshøj BK at the age of 19 . In the first half of the 2003/04 season he made his debut under coach Bent Christensen in Denmark's second-highest division. Overall, he came to the bad relegation-threatened club to six league appearances, in which he could give his first talent tests. During the winter break of the season, coach Christensen moved to the Danish third division to his home club Lyngby BK and brought Beckmann to the club for his debut.

Lyngby BK

At the traditional club, which went bankrupt in 2001, he then made the breakthrough in adult football. In eleven matches in the second half of the season, he achieved three goals and six assists. He was also voted Lyngby Player of the Spring.

In the 2004/05 season Beckmann had established himself as a right midfielder and, thanks in particular to 22 goals this season from Morten Nordstrand , celebrated promotion to the second Danish division as third in the table.

In the following season he got a congenial offensive partner in Kim Aabech , with whom he had already played together at Virum-Sorgenfri and B in 1903. In the offensive alliance with Aabech and Nordstrand, Lyngby then advanced to become the strongest offensive team in the league and caused a sensation as a newcomer. At the end of the season, being third in the table, you just missed the march into the SAS league . Nordstrand, who even managed to improve his goalscoring rate to 29 goals this season in league two, could no longer be held and moved to the SAS league for FC Nordsjælland . With Anders Jochumsen , brought in as a replacement for Nordstrand , the club's management then made a stroke of luck. Jochumsen integrated seamlessly into the offensive game of the Vikings directed by Beckmann and Aabech and was second on the scorers list with 16 goals behind Peter Graulund . In addition, there was a performance explosion from Aabech who increased his goal rate from 6 to 15 goals. Beckmann, as the main assistants from midfield, formed a playful symbiosis with Aabech in particular , which gave Lyngby the term "Aabeckman" , which is often overused , with a goal difference of +20 and five points ahead of second-placed Aarhus GF the sovereign win of the championship title in the Viasat Sport Division and the associated return to the SAS league.

Due to the club's philosophy of not buying expensive players, which was re-launched after the financial bankruptcy at the beginning of the new millennium, the first division season went without a veteran. The talented but inexperienced team proved over the entire season as not first division and rose immediately from bottom of the table. Beckmann, meanwhile matured into a leading player, had stood out right up to the end with his ambitious performance and became one of the few winners. With 8 goals in 26 appearances, he shone for the first time in his career with a goal threat and had aroused the interest of several clubs. After a change in the summer break failed due to the high transfer demand from Lyngby, he ran for 3 games with 2 goals in the second division. Then Lyngby surprisingly agreed with Randers FC on a transfer fee of just over half a million euros, whereupon Beckmann was first class again.

Randers FC

His debut season for Randers was mostly plagued by several minor injuries. Immediately after the first championship game against AC Horsens, he suffered from a knee injury that forced him to pause for over a month. After that, he followed his form until the winter break, only able to record three assists and no goal. In preparation for the second half of the season, he injured his knee again and was unable to fight for a regular place. Randers played a good second half and ended the season in the secured midfield in fifth place. Beckmann played a total of sixteen league games with three goals, but had not established himself as a regular until the end.

In the following season he finally took his intended place in the attacking midfield of his club and remained injury free. With Marc Nygaard , however, the great top performer of the previous year fell into a long-lasting form depression and Tobias Grahn and Allan Jepsen , who were engaged as managers, disappointed across the board . The team could not cope with these failures and slid into the table cellar. At the winter break they were thirteen points behind at the bottom of the table and one of the most promising candidates for relegation.

For the second half of the season, Beckmann in particular presented himself greatly improved and played an outstanding half series. With seven goals in fifteen games, six of which were decisive, he was almost single-handedly responsible for catching up his team and the resulting relegation. In 31 games of the season he had scored ten goals and was voted the best player of the second half of the season by the club coach of the SAS league.

FC Nordsjælland

In July 2011 Beckmann moved from Randers FC to FC Nordsjælland after Randers was relegated to the 1st division. The fee was 135,000 euros. Beckmann came to 23 missions in his first season, in which he scored eight goals. With these eight goals he had a share in winning the championship title. Beckmann made his European debut in the 2012/13 season when he was in the starting eleven in the Champions League group phase against Shakhtar Donetsk . Against Juventus Turin on October 23, 2012, he scored his first goal in competition and his first European goal.

APOEL Nicosia

On January 8, 2013 Beckmann signed a contract for two and a half years with APOEL Nicosia . The transfer fee was 200,000 euros. He scored his first goal for APOEL on March 3, 2013 against AEK Larnaka . At the end of the 2012/13 season he celebrated the Cypriot championship with the team.

IF Elfsborg

Despite the success with APOEL Nicosia, Beckmann's contract was terminated prematurely there. He then moved to IF Elfsborg on a free transfer , where he replaced David Elm , who had moved to Kalmar FF . He signed a contract there for three and a half years. However, the engagement was unsuccessful for him, with the multiple national champions he was mostly only the role of a supplementary player. Therefore, he left the club after a year and a half and returned to Denmark.

Hobro IK

In February 2015 Beckmann signed a contract with Hobro IK that was valid until summer 2016 . At Hobro, he played nine league games in the 2014/15 season before announcing on November 22, 2015 that he would end his active career due to persistent pain.

National team

Beckmann is considered a late starter on the international level for Denmark, as he was not called up in any of his country's youth teams. In 2008 he made his debut after strong performances for Lyngby under coach Morten Olsen in a 2-1 away win in the friendly against Slovenia in the senior national team . He came into play in the 71st minute for Martin Jørgensen .

On March 26, 2008 he was allowed to debut in the 1-1 friendly game against the Czech Republic in the starting line-up, but was substituted at 0-0 in the half-time break against Kenneth Perez .

He was then no longer called up for the national team, before he was nominated as the biggest surprise alongside Patrick Mtiliga in Denmark's preliminary squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . Coach Olsen justified his decision with the outstanding season that Beckmann had completed for his club. Previously, he had only been given outsider chances for a place in the World Cup squad.
