Milanówek is a town in the Masovian Voivodeship ( Poland ), about 30 kilometers from Warsaw .

As Milanówek is close to the Polish capital Warsaw on the one hand, but also in a rural area on the other, it is particularly attractive as a place to live for business people who work in Warsaw. In order to increase this attractiveness, active city marketing is carried out. Milanówek sees itself as “the green city” ( miasta-ogród , literally “garden city”). This closeness to nature is expressed in the many natural monuments and green spaces.

The concept of the “green city” Milanówek also includes keeping industry out of the city as much as possible. The tax revenue lost to the city as a result is to be compensated by a majority of the citizens. Milanówek is actually a rather wealthy city, which is also reflected in the comparatively very low unemployment rate of 6.58% (2005) (cf. Poland as a whole: 18% / Germany as a whole: 11.5%).

history

The city was first mentioned in 1899 as "Milanówek-Letnisko" ("Milanówek Resort") as a summer resort by Michał Lasocki (also spelled Lasecki) .

The urn with Frédéric Chopin's heart was kept in Milanówek, where the Warsaw bishops were interned during the Second World War . It stood on the piano in the salon chapel on the first floor of the presbytery until October 17, 1945. On the anniversary of Chopin's death, the pastor of the Holy Cross Church, Father Leopold Petrzyk (1890–1960), brought the composer Bolesław Woytowicz (1899–1980) and the musicologist Bronisław Sydow (1886–1951) the Żelazowa Wola urn . From there there was a festive return of the urn, accompanied by the Polish President Bolesław Bierut (1892–1956) from the birthplace of Chopin back to the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw .

The city celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1999. Milanówek was granted city rights in 1951. In 2008 Milanowek became the twin town of Welzheim in the Rems-Murr district.

From 1975 to 1998 the municipality was part of the Warsaw Voivodeship .

The name Milanówek is derived from the bird Milano ( Milan ): "little Milan" or "Milanchen".

The design of the first city coat of arms dates back to 1971 . It referred to the city's two main industries, the textile and precision industries. With the decision of the city council on June 10, 1997 , the current coat of arms was used. On the left half, it shows the coat of arms of Count Michał Lasocki (also written Lasecki) from the coat of arms community Dolęga, the “founder” of the city, and on the right half, with a green oak leaf on a golden background, indicates Milanówek's closeness to nature .
