Marcin Dorociński (born June 22, 1973 in Milanówek ) is a Polish theater , film and television actor .

Life

Origin and education

Marcin Dorociński, born near Warsaw , comes from a humble background. The family was poor. His father worked as a blacksmith, his mother was a housewife. His three brothers later went to the police. As a child, Dorociński wanted to become a professional footballer; However, after a serious injury to his Beim, he had to give up this career aspiration. He attended the Technical School in Grodzisk Mazowiecki , where he obtained a state qualification as a machinist . His acting talent was discovered by his history teacher during his professional school days. Career

In his second year at the Warsaw Theater Academy he was engaged as Don Rodrigue for a TV adaptation of Le Cid with Krystyna Janda as director. He made his film debut in 1996 with a small role as a student in the controversial film Szamanka by Andrzej Żuławski . A year later, in April 1997, he won an actor's award at the 15th Festival of Theater Schools in Łódź (XV Festiwalu Szkół Teatralnych w Łodzi) for the role of Creon in Sophocles ' tragedy Antigone .

After graduating in 1997, Dorociński initially found no work as an actor. He worked as a waiter , as a bouncer in a nightclub and kept himself afloat with various other jobs until he finally got a stage engagement at the Dramatic Theater Warsaw (Teatr Dramatyczny m.st. Warszawy). As a guest Dorociński also appeared in several productions at the Ateneum Theater (Teatr Ateneum) in Warsaw; He has been a permanent member of the Ateneum Theater ensemble since the 2011/12 season.

Dorociński initially played minor roles in various Polish TV series. His breakthrough as a film actor came in 2005 with the crime film Pitbull by director Patryk Vega . In 2005 he received the Zbyszek Cybulski Film Prize for his role as State Secretary Sławomir "Despero" Desperski. Other leading roles in the cinema followed, including in Luises Garten (2007, original title Ogród Luizy ), in which he played Fabian "Fabio" Sawicki, a gangster who falls in love in a psychiatric institution with a young girl who lives in a dream world. In 2008 he impersonated the male lead Bartek in the romantic comedy Rozmowy noca , which has cinematic echoes of Harry and Sally and Love Actually .

He made his international debut in 2010. He took on the male lead, alongside Sonja Richter , the Pole Maciek, in Per Fly's erotic psychodrama The Woman Who Desires a Man (German title also Under the Skin - Dangerous Desires ). In the historical film drama Róża (2011), directed by Wojciech Smarzowski, he played the male lead Tadeusz, a former officer in the Polish Home Army who helps a young widow in Masuria who is in need, raped and plundered by Russians . For his role he won the Golden Lion at the Polish Film Festival Gdynia in 2011 . He also won numerous other awards for the role of Tadeusz: as the best male performer on the “XV. Marcin Dorociński is one of the most sought-after film, television and theater actors in his native Poland. He often embodies "complex, multi-layered and difficult" characters. As an actor, he is particularly interested in independent films .

In 2009 he won the Golden Lion for Best Supporting Actor at the 34th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for his role as the charming admirer Bronislaw in Rewers (2009). In 2012 he was awarded the Polish Paszport Polityki Culture Prize in the “Film” category. In 2013 he was nominated for the Polish Orły Film Prize as best actor for his role in Obława (about: Driven Hunt ). In April 2014 he received the Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit .

Private

Dorociński is with the set designer Monika Sudół. The couple have two children together, a son (* 2006) and a daughter (* 2008). Dorociński supports various social and community organizations and projects, including a. the WWF and the SYNAPSIS Foundation.
