Miloš Štědroň (born February 9, 1942 in Brno ) is a Czech composer and musicologist .

Life

Štědroň studied from 1959 to 1964 at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Brno Bohemian Studies and Musicology with Jan Racek and his uncle Bohumír Štědroň and then until 1971 composition and music theory at the Janáček Academy with Alois Piňos , Miloslav Ištvan , Ctirad Kohoutek and Jan Kapr . This was followed by postgraduate studies in electronic music.

Since 1974 he has been teaching opera history and music theory at Masaryk University; In 1994 he became a full professor of musicology. In 1985 he published his dissertation Leoš Janáček a hudba 20. století (Leoš Janáček and the music of the 20th century). He also participated in the editing of Janáček's works as an editor and foreword author, on which he published more than 60 articles in musical magazines. With Leoš Faltus he reconstructed and supplemented several unfinished works by Janáček, a. a. the violin concerto Putování dušičky , the symphony Dunaj and the opera Živá mrtvola

Furthermore, Štědroň wrote music-theoretical writings ( Formování hudby , Základy mikrotektoniky , Základy polymelodiky ), a monograph on the composer Josef Berg ( Josef Berg - skladatel mezi hudbou, divadlem a literaturou , Brno 1992) and worked on the bar musicians of the Renaissance and Claudio des Monteverdi ( Claudio Monteverdi - génius opery ), Adam Michna , Jan Blahoslav and Jakub Jan Ryba . 1992-1993 he was a facsimile collection of Baroque songs under the title písně rozmanité - Cantilenae diversae out

Štědroň's compositional oeuvre encompasses almost every musical genre from drama and film music to opera, symphonic works, chamber music to songs, works for solo instruments and electroacoustic music. His son Miloš Orson Štědroň was also known as a composer.
