Milorad B. Protić (Милорад Б. Протић; born August 6, 1911 in Belgrade ; † October 29, 2001 ibid) was a Yugoslav astronomer .

Protić was one of the first asteroid discoverers of the former Yugoslavia. He also discovered comet C / 1947 Y1 . The seven asteroids he discovered all have names related to his homeland:

The asteroid (1517) Beograd bears the name of the then Yugoslav capital Belgrade , while (1550) Tito is named after the former head of state Josip Broz Tito and (1554) Yugoslavia is named after the former state of Yugoslavia . (1564) Srbija is reminiscent of Serbia .

The asteroid (1675) Simonida is named after the wife of the Serbian King Stefan Uroš II Milutin , Queen Simonida . Other Serbian personalities were honored with the asteroids (2244) Tesla - after the inventor and engineer Nikola Tesla - and (2348) Michkovitch , the latter named after the SANU member Vojislav V. Mišković .

Protić himself was dedicated to the asteroid (22278) Protitch on December 30, 2001 for his work in the fields of fundamental astronomy and celestial mechanics and as the three-time director of the Belgrade Observatory . The asteroid (1724) Vladimir is named after his grandson .
