Minecraft: Story Mode is an eight-episode point-and-click adventure based on the video game Minecraft . The first and second episodes were released worldwide in October 2015 for Microsoft Windows , macOS , PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4 , Xbox 360 , Xbox One , Android and iOS . The other episodes followed one to two months after the previous episode was published. The game was developed by Telltale Games in collaboration with Mojang . In 2018 it was also released on Netflix. On June 25, 2019, the game was removed from all online distribution platforms because the developer Telltale Games was closed. Games purchased through the Steam and GOG platforms can still be downloaded and played.

action

You play the main character Jesse . He and his four friends Petra, Axel, Olivia and Lucas worship the legendary "Order of the Stone". This consists of four adventurers who once defeated the Ender Dragon: Magnus the Griefer, Soren the Architect, Ellegard the Redstone Specialist and Gabriel the Warrior.

When the friends visit the “EnderCon” game fair with their pig Reuben , they discover behind the scenes that something really terrible is going on. In order to save their world from oblivion, they have to find the “Order of the Stone” and so they go in search of the four heroes.

Episode 1: The Order of the Stone

Jesse, Olivia and Axel take part in a construction competition in which their main competitors are the devious "Ocelots". During the competition, they discover that a shady trader named Ivor is working in a secret laboratory below the competition arena to create a powerful monster called "Wither Storm". This is released and destroys the city surrounding the arena; Jesse and his friends escape to the "Nether", a hell-like parallel world, in which they go in search of the legendary Order of the Stone. At the end of the episode, they come across the Order's fortress.

Episode 2: Assembly Required

The group comes across a temple that was once the headquarters of the order. In this is a machine that can be set in motion by an amulet that Jesse had received from an order member who had already been discovered. The machine shows the whereabouts of two other order members. These are visited by the group and persuaded to join it. Back at the temple, it turns out that a previously recruited group member is seriously ill. The machine now shows the whereabouts of the last missing order member, but also that a dangerous renegade of the order, Ivor, is on the way to him.

Episode 3: The Last Place You Look

After an argument with Ivor, the group arrives at “The End”, a place where the last member of the order, Soren, investigates the dangerous “Endermen”. The player can persuade Soren to use the "Formidi bomb" he developed against the "Wither Storm" monster. The monster is blown up by them and the victims devoured by it all reappear.

Episode 4: A Block and a Hard Place

Contrary to hope, the "Wither Storm" monster was not destroyed, instead it reforms and divides into three independent monsters. Ivor reports on a book of Enchantments that he keeps at home and that could be of help against the monster. With the help of the book, Jesse assembles a powerful weapon that destroys the monster. Jesse and friends are named members of the Order of Stone.

Episode 5: Order Up!

In a temple, Jesse's group discovers a magical artifact called "flint and steel". Ivor finds out that this is the key to "Eversource", a source of power. The group finds and activates a portal, but at that moment the "Ocelots" appear under their guide Aiden and enter it first. On the other side of the portal, they land in Sky City, a city in the clouds. There they meet a hostile population because the Ocelots have talked them badly at "Founder", the founder of the city. They join an underground movement and with its help they reach the palace of the "Founder", where they discover the source of the "Eversource". They are surprised by "Founder" and Aiden, and a fight ensues, which they win after a few story turns, but the city is destroyed. Jesse's group manage to escape through a portal.

Episode 6: A Portal into Mystery

The group enters another portal and ends up in a parallel world that resembles their own, but consists of swampland and has two moons. There you will discover the house of the “Inviters”, a group of seven web video producers, most of whom are based on real people; among others, an avatar of Daniel Andrew Middleton is a member of the group. Deaths occur inside the house, and Jesse's group and the web video producers work together to investigate while more people die. Eventually a web video producer is identified as the perpetrator and the survivors travel back home through a portal.

Episode 7: Access Denied

The group enters another portal and ends up in a parallel world controlled by the artificial intelligence PAMA. PAMA controls the thoughts of the inhabitants of the world and tries to subjugate Jesse and his group as well. With the help of the builder of Pama, Harper, Jesse succeeds in destroying PAMA.

Episode 8: The End?

The group seeks out the "old builders" who, with the help of a manipulated game, enslave the population and force them to work in a mine. Jesse succeeds in defeating the Old Builders. The group will then receive a new artifact that will help them get back to their home world.

Game principle and technology

The game follows the episodic format that Telltale uses in many of his video games. The player makes the decisions and actions that later have an impact on the later story elements. The game revolves around a new character named Jesse. The character and his allies are trying to save the world after another character in the game wreaked havoc. It is up to the heroes to reunite the Order of the Stone. The game world is shown in 3D and the character is controlled from different perspectives. Some of the dialogues in the game are multiple-choice . At the beginning of the game you can choose the gender of the main character Jesse. Therefore, the character Jesse was dubbed by two different people, the male Jesse from Patton Oswalt , the female Jesse from Catherine Taber .

Expandable content

Telltale Games announced that it will release three more episodes as an additional add-on to the main game. This downloadable expansion will be available to all main game owners.
