Mirko Culic (born February 5, 1963 in Kragujevac , Yugoslavia ) is a former volleyball player and current German volleyball trainer.
Career
Mirko Culic was active as a player in the 1980s for Bosna Sarajevo and OK Partizan Belgrade and played 260 international matches for Yugoslavia . In 1991 the player switched to the German Bundesliga club Moerser SC . In 1993 he was hired by the SCC Berlin . In the capital he stood on the field for five years. As a player, Culic won four championships and six cup competitions.
The native Serb also began his career as a coach for the women of the Volley Cats in Berlin . Previously, he had mentored a college team while in the United States . From 2001 he trained the men of the SCC. With the Charlottenburgers he won the German championship in 2003 and 2004. In 2005 he was dismissed after losing the semi-final against evivo Düren in Berlin. A year later he succeeded Bernd Werscheck in Düren and led evivo to the third runner-up in a row in the 2006/07 season. In 2008 he reached the final of the DVV Cup with the club . Nevertheless, his contract was not extended. Culic switched to the Netzhoppers Königs Wusterhausen in order to be closer to his adopted home Berlin. In the 2008/09 season, the Brandenburgers lost to Generali Haching in the playoff semi-finals with the new coach . The following three Bundesliga seasons each ended in the quarter-finals.
