Bernd Werscheck (born February 27, 1961 in Hildesheim ) is a German volleyball and beach volleyball trainer and teacher.

Career

Werscheck began his career in 1990 as a youth national coach. Then trained from 1993 to 1999 the youth teams of the women's Bundesliga club TV Creglingen . In 2000 Werscheck had his first engagement with Dürener TV , where he worked as an assistant coach with the Canadian Keith Hansen . With this duo, DTV reached third place in the Bundesliga and the final in the DVV Cup . 2001 Werscheck moved to league competitor VC Eintracht Mendig . However, he was released there after a failed sporting start. For the 2002/03 season he returned to evivo Düren and took over the role of head coach. Two years later, Düren was German runner-up for the first time in its club history. In the following season, Werscheck's team played in the Champions League and was able to repeat their entry into the playoff final of the Bundesliga. The successful trainer changed roles at evivo in the summer of 2006 and became sports director. At the Universiaden in Bangkok in 2007 and in Belgrade in 2009, he was in charge of the German national student team. He was also the coach of the German team, which took fourth place in the 2008 Europa League . In the 2010/11 season Werscheck was with Mendig champions of the second division south. The club from the Vulkaneifel, where Werscheck's son Tom-Julius also played, renounced promotion and only reached tenth place in 2012, whereupon Werscheck left VC Mendig in May 2012, Werscheck became the coach of the third division women of SSF Fortuna Bonn . In 2014, the men's second division TSG Solingen Volleys signed him as a new coach. There he worked with the assistant trainer Oliver Gies ; The team's setter was his son Tom Julius Werscheck. With Solingen, the coach made it to the Bundesliga in 2016 with just one defeat in the season. After this success, however, he left the club because the stress in the first division was not compatible with his activities in beach volleyball. In 2017 Werscheck became the coach of the women's second division team VC Neuwied 77 . He finished sixth with the club in the first season before Neuwied climbed to third place in the 2018/19 season. At the end of July 2019, however, Werscheck announced his resignation due to differences with the club's management.

Parallel to his activities in the hall, Werscheck has been active in beach volleyball for many years . In March 2002 he became the coach of the duo Susanne Lahme  / Danja Müsch , which reached the round of 16 at the 2004 Olympic tournament . In 2010 he looked after Angelina Grün and Rieke Brink-Abeler before accompanying the beach volleyball players to the Universiade in Beijing the following year . First in Düren and now in Jülich , as the tournament director, he organizes the DKB Beach Cup every year, which, in addition to the school and hobby competitions, always includes a professional tournament. In 2011 the event took place for the tenth time. It is currently being held as a West German championship. In his “Beachplus” project, Werscheck supports the next generation with training camps. He has been training the twin sisters Lena and Sarah Overländer since 2017 .

Bernd Werscheck also worked as a physical education teacher at the Rheinbach municipal high school and at the Werner Heisenberg high school in Neuwied .
