Missionary Community of Villaregia

The Missionary Community of Villaregia ( English : Missionary Community of Villaregia , abbreviation: MCV; Italian : Comunità Missionaria di Villaregia , common abbreviation: CMV ) is a Roman Catholic association of believers whose focus is missionary work . It was founded in Italy in 1981 and recognized by the Roman Catholic Pope in 2002 . The fellowship has 600 full members and approximately 21,000 affiliated members in five countries.

history

The missionary community goes back to the idea of Father Luigi Prandin and Mrs. Maria Luigia Corona , together they laid down the basic features of the missionary community in Cagliari (Italy) in 1975 . The first organized group was founded in 1981 in Quartu Sant'Elena in Sardinia and was under the patronage of Archbishop Giuseppe Bonfigioli . After some time of building, the missionary community moved to Rovigo in Veneto and was recognized as a pia unio by Bishop Sennen Corrà , Bishop of Chioggia , in 1984 . On May 26, 2002, the Pontifical Council for the Laity gave the Community papal recognition as an international association of believers under papal law.

Self-image

The training course for ordinary members is completed within the community and includes theological studies, retreats , project work and internships . The aspirants gain practical experience in the countries in which evangelization is carried out, which means that the missionaries should devote themselves entirely to the “mission ad gentes” ( mission of the peoples ). The missionaries / inside, dedicated to the consecrated life have turned to create a private vow to poverty , chastity and obedience from. The married missionaries promise to live in poverty and obedience in their marriage . Another partial vow is the obligation to put communion first and to spread it to the ends of the earth.

Membership in the CMV is divided into ordinary and affiliated members. This means that the ordinary members - the actual core of the mission ad gentes - consists of the group of consecrated men and women. It is divided into four core groups: missionaries ( priests and consecrated men), consecrated missionaries, missionaries in the world, and married missionaries. The affiliated members are united in the so-called "CMV family", they are recruited from volunteers and groups of children, younger people, adolescents, young adults and adults. Affiliated members also include passive members, including sponsors , friends and sympathizers . The CMV has 600 full members and around 21,000 affiliated members. It is represented in 15 countries worldwide and is spread across Africa (2), Europe (8) and South America (5). Sex scandal

In 2012, news of a sex scandal spread across the CMV. This involved the founders and a Roman Catholic bishop. They were accused of internal and external sexual relationships and public nude pictures. This led to the impeachment of Prandin and Corona.
