Mitchell van Bergen (born August 27, 1999 in Oss ) is a Dutch football player who has been under contract with the honorary division SC Heerenveen since August 2018 . The winger has been a Dutch U21 international since May 2019 .
Career
society
Mitchell van Bergen, who was born in Oss , began his football training at RKSV Margriet before joining the youth department of Willem II Tilburg in 2007. In July 2015 he moved to Vitesse Arnhem , where he signed a three-year contract. On December 18, 2015 (17th matchday), he made his debut in the top Dutch league at the age of 16 in a 5-1 home win against FC Twente Enschede when he came on for Milot Rashica in the 86th minute . This was his only appearance for the first team in this 2015/16 season , in which he was mainly used for the U19 and U21. In the following season 2016/17 he was regularly used as a substitute by head coach Henk Fraser . On January 27, 2017, van Bergen signed a new three and a half year contract with Vitas . This season completed 17 league games for the first team, in which he was able to prepare three goals. In the next 2017/18 season he was only used in 10 league games in which he was able to collect two assists.
After playing three league games for Vitesse in the 2018/19 season , he switched to league rivals SC Heerenveen on August 31, 2018 , where he was awarded a four-year contract. The next day he was substituted on for Michel Vlap in a 1: 1 draw against VVV-Venlo in the 75th minute of the game . In the Superfriezen , he quickly made a breakthrough in the starting lineup . His first two goals in the Eredivisie he scored on December 8 (15th matchday) in a 5-1 away win against Willem II Tilburg . In this 2018/19 season he scored seven goals and two assists in 33 league appearances. In the 2019/20 season, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic , he made five goals and four assists in 25 league games. The right winger managed to convince the young team of head coach Johnny Jansen with his speed and tactical understanding .
National team
Between September 2015 and March 2016, Mitchell van Bergen played five international matches for the Dutch U17 national team . Subsequently, the U19 played in six games up to March 2017 . In November 2018 he played an international match for the U20s . He has been a Dutch U21 international since May 2019 .
