history

Lineup

For the land forces of the National People's Army , the formation of five mobilization divisions was planned in the event of war. It was planned to set up the mobilization divisions, three in Military District III ( 3rd Army ) and two in Military District V ( 5th Army ), within 48 hours of mobilization . To carry out combat tasks , the divisions would have been ready - with restrictions - after about 72 hours. The mobilization divisions should be set up as motorized rifle divisions .

The training centers (until December 1, 1986 NCO schools ) and the assigned complex camps formed the basis for the establishment of the mobilization divisions . The training centers were used to train NCOs and reservists . They were already structured in divisional structure. The commander of the training center was also designated as the division commander and the heads of the departments were also intended to be regimental or battalion commanders . The vehicles, weapons and equipment of the respective mobilization division were stored in the complex camps . The stocks in the complex camps were regularly checked and replaced if necessary (e.g. ammunition). 30 percent of the approximately 5,600 tons of ammunition and explosives in a division were already in the combat vehicles.

The 19th motorized rifle division or the training center 19 differed from the other training centers of the NVA in that all other training centers were fully mobile units, while the troops and units of the training center 19 were already partially active during peacetime.

The structure of the mobilization divisions largely corresponded to the structure of the active motorized rifle divisions.

The associations were set up when they were formed for:

  • Training Center 6 on November 27, 1958 as Training Regiment-3
  • the training center 10 on November 27, 1958 as training regiment 5
  • the training center 17 on May 1, 1961 as training regiment 7
  • training center 19 on December 1, 1981 as training center 15
  • the training center 20 on December 1, 1974 as NCO School III

resolution

On October 3, 1990, the NVA was integrated into the Bundeswehr and the individual units were placed under the command of the Bundeswehr Command East .
