history

Model of the JJ Sister

The JJ Sister was ordered in September 1971 and built under construction number 127 at Union Naval de Levante SA in Valencia . After the takeover by the Compania Trasmediterranea on September 13, 1975, the ship was put into service on the route from Barcelona to the Canary Islands .

In September 1985 the JJ Sister was chartered for a student trip to South America called Adventure 92 . The journey took the ship from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria via Santa Cruz de Tenerife to San Salvador , Havana and Puerto Plata to Santo Domingo . On November 1, 1985, the JJ Sister returned to conventional liner service. The student voyage turned out to be very successful, so that until 1993 the ship was chartered every September for trips to South America.

In December 1993, the chartered Corona Line the JJ Sister and renamed it in February 1994 in Balanga Sister to. The ship, now registered in Panama , was used between Karlskrona and Danzig . In the same month, however , the Balanga Sister was withdrawn from the class due to technical deficiencies, which is why it was retired. After the Corona Line had to file for bankruptcy in March 1995 , the ship returned to Spain under its old name JJ Sister and was laid up in Barcelona .

In October 1995 the JJ Sister was chartered by Topas Maritime Lines and used between different ports in Italy, Greece and Turkey. From February 1996 the ship ran again under the Spanish flag, before it was used from April 1996 on the route from Málaga via Melilla to Almería .

In February 1997, the JJ Sister became the property of the Italian Moby Lines, which they renamed Moby Magic . The ship, now registered in Portugal , was used between Genoa and Bastia from May 1997 . In 1998 the Moby Magic was registered in Italy and from then on deployed to Livorno from its new home port of Olbia .

On September 11, 2003, the Moby Magic ran on another crossing from Livorno to Olbia seven kilometers off the coast due to a navigation error on an underwater rock and was listed. All passengers and crew were evacuated before the ship could be towed into the port of Olbia.

In September 2003 the Moby Magic was towed to Naples to be launched there. After a two-year layover, she was relocated to Genoa in October 2005. In December 2005 the ship was sold to Turkey for scrapping. On December 29, 2005, the Moby Magic arrived in Aliağa , where it was dismantled in the following weeks.

The sister ship of Moby Magic was Manuel Soto , which entered service in 1976 , went to Moby Lines in 1992 as Moby Fantasy and was also scrapped in Aliağa in 2013.
