The fifth season of the US sitcom mom celebrated its premiere on November 2, 2017 the transmitter CBS . The German-language first broadcast was broadcast from May 2 to July 11, 2018 on the German pay TV channel ProSieben Fun .

As a result of her pregnancy, Jaime Pressly was absent from episodes 8 to 12, before that she could only be seen on video calls. In order to camouflage the pregnancy, the authors wrote an overeating with a subsequent cure in her role.

When they are stopped by a police patrol on the highway, Christy finds cocaine and hashish in the glove compartment while searching for the vehicle documents . Bonnie and Christy confront him, at first he tries to deny everything, but then admits that he takes something every now and then. The next morning he fled the house before the two women got up. Adam cannot hold him back either. They later find out that he broke up with his husband David and that he also has financial problems.

But Jill can comfort her, because Emily has trouble showing her feelings.

Since she cannot walk, she is now dependent on a wheelchair like Adam, and she blames Christy for it because she was texting her when it happened. Christy now has to take over her mother's housekeeping duties and realizes that Bonnie was very helpful towards the tenants, which she never thought she could do. Bonnie herself tries to take advantage of the situation in a wheelchair when she wants to have dinner with Adam in a restaurant and insists that they get a table. Adam is ashamed of her and Bonnie realizes that living in a wheelchair is not that easy.

Bonnie is amazed that he hasn't mentioned anything about him yet. She persuades Adam to come and so they go to Christy's restaurant together. But soon Bonnie notices that the two don't like each other and wants to know from Adam why. Christy, on the other hand, thinks Patrick is very likeable and when she is cleaning up later, he shows up again. They arrange to meet for the next evening. Christy of course wants to know why things are going so badly between him and Adam. He's telling her the complete opposite of what Adam said. So the two women have no choice but to bring the brothers together under a pretext so that they can speak.

In doing so, she begins to think about how her relationship with Patrick should continue, since he will return to Santa Cruz soon. When she and Bonnie come home from a visit to Marjorie two weeks later, Patrick is surprisingly there too. They make up for the missed meal, but she comes back earlier than Bonnie and Adam expected. It turns out that she scared Patrick because she was thinking aloud about how it will be in thirty years. To sort things out, she visits him in his hotel room the next morning and they agree to take it slow.

They follow the provider back, when they knock on his door they are amazed because it opens Mary, who also regularly attends their meetings. So first they need to find an excuse to be here. In the end they still ask if she lives here alone and explain what happened. Mary admits that her grandson lives with her, but she is so shocked that they suspect him for kicking her out. At the next meeting everyone wonders whether Mary will come too when she suddenly stands in the door with a bag. She found the stolen things in her grandson's room.

But when she tells him everything she knows about the company that goes wrong, the dismissal is no longer an issue. Adam gets a call from Ray saying he's in jail and someone has to pay the bail. Bonnie feels left out and forces Adam to take her and Christy with him. Adam is ready to take Ray into his home. It turns out that Ray is back on cocaine. Bonnie wants to organize a therapy place for him, but he cannot be helped. So Adam puts him on the street. So he tries to stay with Bonnie, but she refuses because she knows that this is the only way he will come to his senses.

When she comes home late one evening and Adam was worried about where she was for so long, she confesses to him, but asks him not to say anything to his brother. She later explains to Cooper that she actually has a boyfriend and gets in the car to go to see Patrick in Santa Cruz.

When she got to Patrick's place, she felt uncomfortable in his living room because he mentioned that his ex-wife set everything up. So he suggests going to a hotel. It is very noisy there because the couple is having wild sex in the next room. So they drive around in the car and decide to wait until the next day to have sex. But then Christy confesses that she was not loyal and flees home. When she comes home from work that evening, she surprises Patrick with a living room full of flowers and forgives her.

He also wants to lend her the money, but Christy is too proud to take it. After she fell asleep in the bus on the way back and ended up in nowhere, Adam picks her up. Christy is now ready to accept Adam's offer and goes to her ex-husband Baxter to buy a new car. When she then shows him to Patrick, he naturally wants to know where she got the money from. She claims that Baxter paid for her car. Now that Patrick thinks she has something with Baxter again, Christy has to tell him the truth. Patrick then wants to give Adam the money, but they get into an argument about it. Christy therefore decides to return the car, but Baxter does not accept it. He gives her the car.

She is disappointed and goes to another Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and complains that you only have friends as long as you pay for them. Bonnie happens to be there too and speaks to her afterwards. She realizes that it is not right to take advantage of Jill's wealth. Christy has no luck with her applications for a university, she also gets a rejection from the one who usually accepts everyone. When she meets the other students celebrating their recordings in the cafeteria, she is on the verge of drinking alcohol again. But a phone call saves them at the last second.

Then she is full of self-confidence again and goes to the admission office to follow up. Then Miranda treats Bonnie, too, catching up with her past as a bad mother. Jill tries Miranda's advice to eat half a cookie and then stop doing it. Unfortunately with little success: she drowns her grief in alcohol.

At the next meeting, it looks like Jill has caught herself, but when Patrick, Christy, Bonnie and Adam are at the birthday dinner, they get a call from Soledad, Jill's housekeeper. Christy wants to go back to her immediately, but Bonnie offers to go alone. Since Patrick realizes that Christy's thoughts are no longer with him, he sends her to Jill too. Adam then celebrates Patrick's birthday alone with him, explaining to him that he has to come to terms with the fact that something can always happen. Later at home, Patrick finds out that he can't even spend the night with Christy in her bed because Jill sleeps off her intoxication there. The next morning Patrick meets Jill and realizes that she really needs help and she tells him that Christy was always there for her from the start. Before he leaves, he speaks to Christy and explains to her that he has trouble accepting that there will always be something between them.

But afterwards Jill is even more depressed than Christy. But they can comfort each other because Christy realizes that she didn't really love Patrick, otherwise she would have gone to Santa Cruz.

Now Bonnie feels guilty because she thinks it's her fault that Tammy is now in jail. She offers to help, but Tammy initially refuses. When she brings Christy with her on the second visit and promises that Christy will take care of her case with a lawyer, Tammy can forgive her.

It turns out that Marjorie has not had a supervisor herself for almost a year and is now slowly realizing that she is missing something because she can no longer talk to anyone about her problems. Meanwhile, Christy has a date with a shoe salesman in revenge for her ex Patrick going on vacation with another woman. Although she did not develop any feelings on the date, she encourages her new supervisor Rita to go on a second date anyway.

Christy is afraid that her mother is not trying hard enough and that she will be thrown out as a result. Bonnie complains to Marjorie because she is dissatisfied with the job and it is not what she actually wants. Marjorie tells Bonnie that she should be happy to have a job at all, it is a first step in the right direction. When Bonnie then passes by Mr. Munson - the blind tenant - because he is behind on the rent, she only realizes how well she is actually doing. Mr. Munson can't pay the rent because he needs all the money for medication because he's got cancer.

She asks her new supervisor Nora for advice, who recommends that she move out if she is dissatisfied with the situation. So Christy moves in with Wendy's apartment, but when people only talk about stories from the hospital over dinner, she can't stand it. Nora makes it clear to Christy that if she wants to live with her mother, she should also be nice to her. This takes a lot of effort for Christy, but she manages. But Bonnie now thinks it's Adam who is tidying up the apartment. She was having problems with him because she found that he has not brought the same commitment to their relationship since they were engaged. Christy is now frustrated because Adam has received all the praise, but she is also happy that the two were able to resolve their differences.

They stop on the way to Reno because Christy wants to buy an ice cream. Meanwhile, Bonnie is checked by a police officer because there are no license plates on Christy's car. It turns out that Bonnie still has unpaid fines of over $ 2,000 from before. She ends up in the detention cell of the police station, while Christy asks Adam to transfer the money to her. The nearest ATM is in a casino and Christy can't resist the temptation, but gambled away all the money. So she asks Jill if she can transfer the money to her. But she also loses this money while playing. When she shows up at the police station again and confesses to her mother what happened, the officer lets her go without paying because Bonnie has given him some good advice on how to deal with his problematic daughter.

As she is counting her tip after work the night before the party, she invites Chef Rudy to a game of poker. Christy cannot resist and loses all her money and her earrings. When Christy confesses what happened after the party, she receives a lecture from Bonnie. She runs away, but Bonnie finds her and speaks to her conscience again. After the next Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, Christy realizes that she has to face her problem and also attends a Gamblers Anonymous meeting. When she comes home afterwards, Bonnie has a surprise for her: she got a place at university after all.

In the United States , the fifth season DVD was released on September 4, 2018. In Germany , the DVD has not yet appeared on the fifth season.
