Monika Frimmer (* 1955 in Marburg ) is a German opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Monika Frimmer, whose parents met on a mountain tour in 1947 and married in 1951 in the Wieskirche , studied singing at the Hanover University of Music and Drama . In 1980 she won the national singing competition in Berlin . From 1980 to 1993 she was engaged as a lyric soprano at the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover . She appeared there in 1982 as anima in Rappresentazione di Anima a di Corpo by Emilio de 'Cavalieri . The performances in the Marktkirche were directed by Hans-Martin Linde . In Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss she sang Najade. In the opera Sly by Ermann Wolf-Ferrari, which was revived by the Hanover Opera, she sang the role of Rosalina. Since 1993 she has been working as a freelance singer in opera, oratorio and lied.

In 1987 Monika Frimmer took part in a recording of Buxtehude's Membra Jesu nostri , directed by Ton Koopman , with Barbara Schlick , Michael Chance , Christoph Prégardien , Peter Kooij , the Knabenchor Hannover and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra . In the Neustädter Kirche , Hanover, she sang in choir concerts, in 1996 A German Requiem and in 1988 Stravinsky's Cantata and Mozart's Great Mass in C minor . In 1991 she sang there in Bach's St. Matthew Passion , the last concert by Cantor Erhard Egidi , with Dantes Diwiak as Evangelist , Anselm Richter as Vox Christi , Ralf Popken and Joachim Gebhardt. In 1998 she recorded the St. Matthew Passion with the St. Thomas Choir and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra , directed by Georg Christoph Biller . She participated in the cycles of Bach cantatas by both Gustav Leonhardt and Masaaki Suzuki . With Suzuki she also recorded Bach's Christmas Oratorio .

In 2002 she founded the Tanto Canto quartet with Christa Bonhoff , Dantes Diwiak and Peter Kooij , which performs rare songs both a cappella and with piano or ensemble. In 2005 the quartet recorded excerpts from the ear-pleasing and mind-delighting Tafel-Confect (also called Augsburger Tafel-Confect ) by the composers Valentin Rathgeber and Johann Caspar Seyfert , conducted by Jürgen Sonnentheil . She works regularly with the Trio di Clarone and the Ensemble Incanto. Her song accompanist is Liese Klahn .
