Monika Helbig (politician)

Monika Helbig (born August 28, 1953 in Berlin ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She was a member of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2001 and State Secretary of the State of Berlin from 2002 to 2011 .

biography

After completing secondary school, Monika Helbig completed an apprenticeship in the Berlin administration service and worked in the Berlin administration until 1981. After graduating, she studied at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice until 1984. After graduating with a degree in administration, she moved to the company health insurance fund in Berlin, then in 1989 to the Senate Administration. From 1997 until her appointment as State Secretary, she was Chancellor of the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences in Berlin .

politics

Helbig joined the SPD in 1973. For her party, she was a member of the district assembly of the Berlin district of Spandau from 1985 to 1999 , then until 2001 of the Berlin House of Representatives.

Under the Senate Wowereit II , she became State Secretary and Plenipotentiary at the Federal Government and European Commissioner for the State of Berlin in 2002 . From 2007 she was also the representative for civic engagement. After Barbara Kisseler's move to the Hamburg Senate, Helbig also took over the management of the Senate Chancellery on March 21, 2011. After the formation of the new Berlin Senate, Helbig retired in December 2011. Her successor as head of the Senate Chancellery was Björn Böhning , and Hella Dunger-Löper took over as federal agent .
