Monkey3 is a Swiss Psychedelic - / stoner rock - band from Lausanne . The band is signed to Napalm Records and has released six studio albums to date .

history

The band was founded in 2001 and initially completed numerous jam sessions . It was not planned that Monkey3 would act as an instrumental band. The musicians searched a long time for a suitable singer, but found no one. After the band recorded their first compositions instrumentally and the musicians liked the result, the musicians decided to continue as an instrumental band. The self-titled debut album was released two years later, initially on his own. After the band quickly sold over 1,000 units, Monkey3 was signed by the Belgian music label Buzzville Records .

In 2004 Monkey3 was re-released with changed cover artwork. Thanks to good reviews, the band played numerous concerts in Europe, including with Alabama Thunderpussy and Dozer . In February 2007 the second studio album 39 Laps followed , which among other things contains a cover version of the title song of the western film Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod by Ennio Morricone . In the same year the band played at the Roadburn Festival . The performance at the Rock Oz Arènes festival in Switzerland was recorded and released on DVD under the title Live at Aventicum . In 2009 an EP with cover versions was released with Undercover . Songs by Kiss , Archive , Pink Floyd , Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were covered . John Garcia (ex- Kyuss , Hermano ) and Tony Jelencovich ( Massive Audio Nerve , Transport League ) can be heard as guest singers .

Monkey3 played again in 2010 at Roadburn Festival and Hellfest . The band switched to the German label Stickman Records and released their third studio album Beyond the Black Sky in May . After numerous concerts and festival appearances, Monkey3 switched to the Austrian label Napalm Records , which released the fourth album The 5th Sun in October 2013 . For the song Birth of Venus one was music video rotated. In 2014 the band played at the Burg-Herzberg-Festival and the Desertfest , a year later Monkey3 performed at the Freak Valley Festival . The fifth studio album, Astra Symmetry , followed on September 2, 2016 , with which Monkey3 reached chart positions for the first time. In Switzerland the album reached number 61 and in Germany number 93.

On June 23, 2017 the band released the live album Live at Freak Valley and played at Hellfest and the Alcatraz Metal Festival that summer of that year . The sixth studio album Sphere then followed on April 12, 2019.
