history
Montauban has existed under the name Saint-Eloi since the 8th century. The name was changed when the landlord Olivier had a castle built on a shell limestone hill and named it "Mons Albanus" (White Mountain). The dominion of Montauban became a county in the 12th century. In the 14th century the place took the name of the castle. Montauban later came into the possession of the Rohan family through marriage . In 1995 the municipality was renamed Montauban-de-Bretagne (in order to distinguish itself from Montauban in the south of France ).
