Montpollin is a town and commune Déléguée in the French community Baugé-en-Anjou with 243 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire .

geography

Montpollin is located in the Baugeois landscape on the wooded Pollin ridge above a picturesque valley through which the Verdun flows. 82 hectares are covered with forest, 370 hectares are used for agriculture.

history

In the Middle Ages, Montpollin was a domain of the Dukes of Anjou .

Since January 1, 2013, Montpollin has been part of the newly created municipality of Baugé-en-Anjou. On this date, the municipalities of Montpollin, Baugé , Pontigné , Saint-Martin-d'Arcé and Le Vieil-Baugé were merged into a Commune nouvelle . After the merger, Montpollin forms a Commune déléguée in this association.

Attractions

The church of St-Eutrope dates from the 11th and 13th centuries. The north side chapel belongs to the Ribouet de Sancé family, whose castle, located on the eastern outskirts of Montpollin, but in the area of ​​the former municipality of Saint-Martin-d'Arcé , is open to the public. There is a valuable stone cross from the 15th century in the cemetery.
