Morbillivirus is agenus of virus of the family Paramyxoviridae , order Mononegavirales . They are highly contagious, enveloped viruses with a helical capsid . The genome consists of a single-stranded, non-segmented RNA with negative polarity (ss (-) RNA). The virus envelope has so-called spikes , the glycoproteins of which have hemagglutinin , neuraminidase and hemolytic activity.

Virus replication takes place in the cytoplasm and on the cell membrane of infected cells .

Morbilliviruses are usually sensitive to heat, dehydration, fat-dissolving substances and most disinfectants .

  • Subtype pilot whale morbillivirus (Pilot whale morbillivirus, PWMV)
  • Porpoise morbillivirus (PMV) subtype
  • Subtype Phocine distemper virus 1 (PDV-1)
