The Motorway M-2 is a highway in the Punjabregion in Pakistan . It is 367 km long and connects the largest city Lahore with the capital of the country Islamabad .

construction

The M-2 runs through Kala Shah Kaku, Sheikhupura , Tekke Dogran, Kot Sarwar, Pindi Bhattian, Salem, Lilla, Kot Momin, Kallar Kahar, Balksar and Chakri. It was designed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his first term (1990-1993) and inaugurated in July 1997 after the construction period from 1992 to 1997 during his second term. It is one of the most expensive highways in Asia and has the tallest pillar bridge in Asia (in the Khewra Salt Range ). The owner and operator is the National Highway Authority .

course

The M-2 begins west of Lahore at the Thokar Niaz Baig junction with the N-5 (National Highway 5). After crossing the Ravi River, it deviates from the N-5 (also known as GT or Grand Trunk Road ) and heads west to Sheikhupura. Then after 36 km there is the exit to Khanqah Dogran. The Katas Raj Temple is not far from the highway . After the next exit Kot Sarwar, the M-2 intersects with the M-3 at Pindi Bhattian and runs in a north-west direction until it reaches Islamabad.

The M-2 has six lanes the entire route, and there are a number of rest areas with washrooms and food facilities along the highway.
