Msinga ( English Msinga Local Municipality ) is a municipality in the Umzinyathi district of South Africa in the KwaZulu-Natal province . The municipality's administrative headquarters are in Tugela Ferry . Felinkosi Joshua Sikhakhane is the mayor. The IFP has the majority in the local council.
The name of the community describes a current in the sea; Air movements create small waves on the surface of the water. It covers an area of 2501 square kilometers.
geography
Msinga is one of four parishes in the district and is located in the center of the province. The community borders Endumeni to the north and Nquthu and Nkandla (the latter in King Cetshwayo District ) to the east . To the south of Msinga are Umvoti and Mpofana (the latter in the uMgungundlovu district ) and to the west are Inkosi Langalibalele and Alfred Duma (both in the Uthukela district ). Because the community is located in the gorges of the Tugela and Buffalo rivers , it is fairly isolated from the surrounding communities. 69 percent of the parish is managed by the Ingonyama Trust . 99 percent of the community population also live in these areas.
Msinga gets traffic connection via the R33 , which runs directly through the municipality and is the only paved road in the municipality.
places
- Pomeroy
- Tugela Ferry
population
In 2011 the community had 177,577 inhabitants. 99.6% of them were black.
The first language was 95.6% isiZulu , 1.3% isiNdebele and 0.9% English.
economy
The community is also not economically strong, as the high proportion of women (56.6%) indicates. The men leave the area looking for work. Even the three town-like settlements - Tugela Ferry, Pomeroy and Keate's Drift - cannot provide all the goods needed. Therefore, the residents have to resort to the surrounding communities, especially Umvoti and Endumeni . Investment is made difficult by the large proportion of areas managed by the Ingonyama Trust, as the community cannot dispose of these areas. In addition, the infrastructure is very poorly developed.
The two economic pillars are trade - especially in the three large towns - and the manufacturing and construction industries. Agriculture is also practiced in the community.
Attractions
- The Battle of Rorke's Drift (1879) took place in the parish of Msinga. This battle is one of the most famous of the Zulu War .
