The Municipio Teoponte is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality Teoponte is one of eight municipalities in the province of Larecaja and is located in the north-eastern part of the province. It borders the province of Franz Tamayo to the north, the municipality of Guanay to the west and south , the province of Caranavi to the southeast and the province of Sud Yungas to the east .
The municipality measures 45 kilometers from north to south and from west to east. The municipality comprises 112 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the town of Teoponte with 1,519 inhabitants in the southwestern part of the district. ( 2012 census )
geography
The municipality of Teoponte is located northeast of Lake Titicaca on the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Real in the Bolivian Yungas lowlands in the catchment area of the Río Beni , one of the most important rivers of the Amazon lowlands.
The mean average temperature of the region is almost 26 ° C (see climate diagram Guanay), the annual precipitation is about 1600 mm. The region does not show a pronounced temperature profile, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only insignificantly between 23 ° C in June and July and 27 ° C from November to January, and the day and night temperatures also show only slight fluctuations.
