Located in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park , the Nördliche Göriacher Röte is located in the area of the Virger Nordkette , which delimits the municipality of Virgen to the north. Southeast of the northern Göriacher Röte is the southern Göriacher Röte ( 3020  m above sea level ), to the east the Mittereggspitze ( 3044  m above sea level ), from which the northern Göriacher Röte is separated by the Firschnitzscharte ( 2768  m above sea level ) becomes. On the east side of the summit, the Fritschnitzkees extends between Nördlicher Göriacher Röte and Bretterspitze, where the Frischnitzbach of the same name rises. Adjacent valleys are the Virgental in the south, the valley of the Frosnitzbach in the northeast and the valley of the Malfrosnitzbach in the northwest. The closest refuge is the Bonn-Matreier-Hütte , the closest villages are the Virg districts of Marin and Mellitz in the south.

Promotion opportunities

The normal route on the northern Göriacher Röter leads from Marin to the north into the valley of the Firschnitzbach . Before the Firschnitzscharte the path crosses to the right into a notch of the western ridge of the northern Göriacher Röte, via which one reaches the summit ( II ). Alternatively, it is also possible to climb from the Zedlacher Alm to the north , where the ascent in front of the Fritschnitzscharte leads over gutters and chimneys to the north ridge ( II ). The transition from the northern to the southern Göriacher Röte, on the other hand, is not difficult.
