Nā Mokulua ( English Mokulua Islands or The Twin Islands ) are two small, uninhabited islands in the Hawai'i archipelago and belong to Honolulu County . They are only about one kilometer off the east coast of Oahu not far from the beach of Kailua . The geographic coordinates are approximate 21.4 ° North and 157.7 ° West. Nā Mokulua is a so-called double island .
Nā Mokulua consists of the slightly larger island Moku Nui and the smaller island Moku Iki , which are about 60 m apart. Moku Nui reaches a height of 65 meters, Moku Iki a height of 46 meters above sea level. Both islands have a diameter of a few hundred meters and a total area of only 9 hectares (0.09 km²). Like many other small islands in Hawaii - for example Mānana or Moku Manu - the Mokulua Islands are also a Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary ( bird sanctuary ) and may only be entered under certain conditions.
