Kekepa , also known as Turtle Rock (Eng. "Turtle Rock"), is a flat, uninhabited island in the archipelago of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean . It is located in Kāneʻohe Bay off the east coast of the island of Oʻahu , only a few hundred meters northwest of Marine Corps Base Hawaii and administratively belongs to Honolulu County .
The 6 m high, coral limestone island is 75 m long, up to 35 m wide and has an area of 0.2 ha (0.002 km²). Wedge-tailed shearwaters ( Puffinus pacificus , Hawaiian : ʻuaʻu kani or hōʻio ) breed on Kekepa , and Euphorbia degeneri , Hawaiian: ʻakoko , is a species of milkweed that cannot be found on any other island off the coast of Oʻahu. Kekepa is, like many other small islands in Hawaii, a Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary ( bird sanctuary ) and may not be entered.
