NGC 2008 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Painter at the southern sky . It is an estimated 452 million light years from the Milky Way and about 190,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 2007 , it forms an optical pair of galaxies.
The object was discovered on December 27, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
