NGC 2012 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation of Table Mountain in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 209 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 65,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 3032 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on January 22nd, 1831 .
