NGC 3199 is an emission nebula in the constellation Carina, which is an estimated 12,000 light years from the solar system. It is an arcuate shock front around the central Wolf-Rayet star WR 18.
NGC 3199 was discovered on in 1834 by the astronomer James Dunlop using an 18.7-inch telescope.
