NGC 3185 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Leo at the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 51 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is classified as a Seyfert 2 galaxy and is a member of the Hickson Compact Group 44.
The object was discovered by George Johnstone Stoney in January 1850 .
