NGC 3165 is a Hubble-type Sdm spiral galaxy in the constellation Sextant in the southern sky , an estimated 54 million light years away from the Milky Way .
It interacts with the galaxies NGC 3166 and NGC 3169 , as can be seen in the picture on the right.
The object was discovered by RJ Mitchell on January 30, 1856 .
