NGC 3156 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Sextant in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 53 million light years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years across. The galaxy is considered a member of the five galaxies counting NGC 3169 group ( LGG 192 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3165 and NGC 3166 .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on December 13, 1784 .
