NGC 3143 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 155 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with NGC 3145 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3133 , NGC 3138 , NGC 3139 .
The property was discovered by Andrew Ainslie Common in 1880 .
