NGC 3158 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Leo Minor at the northern sky . It is an estimated 312 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 180,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3152 , NGC 3159 , NGC 3160 and NGC 3161 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 17, 1787 .
