NGC 3139 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 55 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 20,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3133 , NGC 3138 , NGC 3143 and NGC 3145 .
The property was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth in 1886 .
