NGC 3161 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E2 in the constellation Little Leo in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 280 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 65,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3151 , NGC 3158 , NGC 3159 , NGC 3163 .
The object was discovered by Guillaume Bigourdan on February 1, 1886 .
