NGC 3137 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Antlia in the southern sky . It is around 40 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 85,000 light years .
Together with NGC 3113 , NGC 3125 , NGC 3175 and ESO 499-37 it forms the small NGC 3175 group .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on February 5, 1837 .
